Born of the Spirit

In the Christian faith, we believe in God as three and three as one. The Holy Trinity is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and one God. My experience of God was also in the form of three. God, the father, called me to a relationship with Him. It was pretty vague, but I trusted that call and followed the longing in my soul. I didn’t realize the challenges I was to face by answering that call. I had my sins revealed to me in ways I did not understand. I was lustful and had to conquer the temptation of the flesh through God’s help. The Holy Spirit leads every step of the way in prayer because I was blind. I prayed when God told me to and breathed through a lot of pain and suffering.

When faced with the most horrendous sin surrounding my life, I again was led by the Spirit to pray to Jesus Christ for mercy with the prayer “Jesus Christ, Son of God. Have mercy on me.” Only the Son of Man can fight that battle for me against my sins and the condemnation of the devil. I could not and will not do it alone. My soul was washed by the blood of the innocent lamb, making me pure.

I was on my knees begging, and it happened. The love of the Spirit descended from above and poured upon me like an explosion of a supernova in my soul. An orgasmic experience in the body. The first words that came out of my mouth right after were, “I LOVEEEEE YOU VAN” (Van is my sister who was with me that morning when it happened). I was starving, and He fed me. I was desolate, and he comforted me. I burned to ashes, and he molded my body back into shape and breathed life back into my nostrils.

My mind became that of a child, and he put wisdom back in. I was alone and scared. He was the powerful arms that supported this little girl up. I am His child, and he moved heaven and earth to save my soul. This moment was my rebirth through the Holy Spirit.

“Jesus answered, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, “You must be born again.” The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.’” John 3:5-8

God’s love is so intense that I cannot help but become love. I can love others because he first loved me. Knowing this is a spiritual gift only God can give, I am truly blessed. God turned my suffering into beauty and gave me new life. God’s love is three in One. For me, God the Father was wisdom, The Son washed me with mercy, and The Holy Spirit was love. I want to offer you the love of God through me with open arms, open heart and soul, and an open mind. Just a tiny bit of how much God loves you.
