What are eyelash extensions?
It's the new big thing! and I'm here to help make some sense out of it. It's INDIVIDUAL extensions which means that ONE or MULTIPLE extension is applied to ONE of your natural lash. It's a meticulous procedure and very time consuming roughly 2.5 hours with me for a brand new full set. It varies depending on the artist you talk to, so do your research and choose an artist that best fit what you are looking for.
Contrary to some beliefs, lash extension DOES NOT ruin your natural lashes. I isolate your lashes to make sure that no two lashes are sticking together and the extension only adheres to one natural lash. Home care is essential to retention allowing you to enjoy your lash extensions longer, a detailed after care routine is at the bottom of this page.
Lifestyle is very important when you are considering lash extensions. Keep in mind that your lashes cannot be wet for extended periods of time. Water will loosen the adhesive causing the lashes to stick together or fall off.
Tell your artist if you have any of the following conditions or lifestyle: Heavy work out where you sweat for an extended period of time, sleep on your face, nervously pull on your lashes, swim everyday, go into steam rooms or dry saunas, wear contacts, watery eyes, have pink eye, or allergic to super glue. This is to name a few things that may make you not a good fit for lash extensions. Ask lots of questions and educate yourself. It's a large investment of time and money so you should be well informed.
Don't be shy about asking your artist if he or she is properly trained or certified. Only licensed estheticians or cosmetologists in the state of California are allowed to apply lash extensions. Make sure your artist is both licensed and certified. Check out their work and the work of the person that certified them. It will be a good indication of the result you will receive. Everyone's lashes are different so your individual result will vary but the general artist's style and esthetics will be similar from client to client. Just like how you can tell Monet's style is different from Van Gogh style but each artist has a similar style within their art. Both are excellent artists!
How to care for your lash extensions
Lashes must be cleansed and brushed on a daily basis to keep them fluffy and clean. Oil and dead skin cells can stick to them causing infection or eye irritation. Your lashes grow at different rates and are in different life cycles, so when they stick together, they can itch causing you to scratch or tug on them. This can lead to premature loss of your natural lashes.
Cleanse: Use a bristle bush and a foam cleanser made specifically for lash extensions. Put cleanser into a brush and brush your lashes in downward motion. Make sure the get in between the lashes to clean them throughly. Use an irrigation bottle to drip water from your lid through your lashes to flush the cleanser. Use a cotton pad to catch water on your cheeks and pat your lashes dry.
Brush: After your lashes are dry. Use a clean spoolie or lash brush to brush your lashes. Use your fore finger to support the bottom of the lashes and really work the spoolie into the lashes to separate them.
Fill: To maintain the beauty of your lashes, it's recommended that you return to your artist for a fill every two weeks. This appointment is usually shorter than your initial appoint and is roughly half the time. Your artist will remove grown out extensions and refill them, replace the fallen out extensions and apply extensions to new lashes. This is a good time to talk to your artist about what you liked and you would like to change if any. Your artist may have recommendations for the direction of your style or adjust your style to fit your lifestyle and needs.
Keep your lashes dry and clean! Keep heat and fire away as it can melt your lashes. Blow dry your hair away from your face and keep your lashes away from open flames. Maintain them regularly to keep them looking full and fluffy.
What people love about lash extensions is that they wake up ready with curly dark lashes. It'll save you at least 30 minutes in your morning routine. Lash extensions are great for people on the go and for those who wear minimal makeup or none at all. People love how confident and beautiful they feel batting their lashes. Please do not hesitate to email or text me if you have any questions regarding lash extensions.
Your Lash Extension Service
Your full set service will be between two and three hours depending on how many natural lashes you have. I will request a couple before pictures from you. One of your full face and one close up of your eyes. This will allow me to study your features and design a look that enhances your natural beauty. I design your lash extensions based on your eye shape, the distance between your eyes and the shape of your brows. Your lashes are designed to pull all of these elements together and enhance your look.
On your service day, it is best if you can fall asleep when I work as it will help pass the time. Your eyes will need to be closed the entire service. You can bring ear bugs to listen to your own music or audio book. You'll need to refrained from caffeine before your service as it will cause your eyes to twitch making it nearly impossible to isolate and adhere your extensions.
Usually, I will talk with you the first ten minutes and the last ten minutes of your service. The rest of the time I'm in the zone lashing. It's like embroidery, I need to focus or I'm going cross my stitches or stitch my fingers together ;)
